Jobs and the Economy
North Dakota is a model for job creation, with the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, thanks largely to a vibrant and productive oil-producing economy that makes it the 4th largest oil producing state.
North Dakota’s unemployment rate has been as low as 3.5% while the nation's unemployment rate continued to creep closer and closer to 10%. (SOURCE: Bureau of Labor Statistics).
The Bakken Shale has been producing oil for the past decade, and is projected to generate additional jobs and revenue for the State of North Dakota. The Bakken Shale has turned the economy around for North Dakota while contributing to America's domestic energy supply. There are more than 6,000 wells capable of producing oil and gas in North Dakota, and these wells have been an economic boom for the state generating a significant number of jobs.
